Twitter released an update for its iPhone and Android apps Monday, adding the ability to edit and apply filters to photos ? and further distancing itself from now-rival photo sharing service Instagram.
The new version of the app includes rudimentary photo controls, allowing users to enhance, crop and add one of eight filters to their pictures.
Instagram users who are?accustomed to far more options and manual control over the intensity of the filter will not be impressed. But people who prefer to share photos from within Twitter will appreciate the ability to make adjustments without leaving the app.
Coincidentally (or perhaps not),?Instagram also released an update to their app Monday, adding a number of new features.
Twitter and Instagram, once tightly integrated, have been drifting apart following Facebook's acquisition of the photo app. The most recent change was the total removal last week of Instagram images from the Twitter stream.
