Obama Reopens The Gender Gap With Women - Business Insider

AP

With just one day to go until the polls open, national polls show President Barack Obama has experienced a last-minute bump in the final days of the campaign, giving him a slight edge over Republican challenger Mitt Romney going into the Election Day.?

The boost has been driven in part by renewed support for Obama among female voters, a key demographic that the president needs to win over if he wants to win tomorrow.?

The final presidential poll from the Pew Research Center found Obama leading Romney by 13 points among female voters, 53% to 40%. That's a huge swing from last month's Pew poll, which found the two candidates tied among women at 47%.

Similarly, the last ABC News/Washington Post poll found that on the question of which candidate is better equipped to handle women's issues,?voters prefer Obama over Romney by a 50-34 percent margin.?

The results are very positive news for the Obama campaign, which saw the gender gap tighten after the first presidential debate. Obama continues to struggle to win over white male voters, so he needs to make up the difference by widening the gender gap on the other side. If he can translate his resurgent support among women in the polls into a double-digit win with female voters tomorrow, it will go a long way toward ensuring his re-election.?
